Money factor & residual
The money factor determines the rent charge. Multiplying it by 2,400 gives an approximate annual rate comparison, not a disclosed loan APR. Residual value is the lender’s expected vehicle value at lease end. Ask for both numbers for your exact term and mileage.
Down payment vs. signing cash
Cash down lowers the lease balance. Signing cash can also include the first payment, fees, taxes, and a security deposit. A lower monthly payment with more cash down is not automatically a cheaper lease.
Compare the full cost
Effective monthly cost spreads the estimated total cost across the lease term. Compare similar vehicles, mileage allowances, and terms. Different lease lengths and mileage allowances affect value even if the payments look similar.
Cash due = cash down + upfront fees + upfront tax + refundable deposit + first monthly payment. Total cost = all monthly payments + cash down + applied trade equity + upfront fees + upfront tax + disposition fee.
Why might this differ from my dealer’s quote?
Lender rounding, taxes, taxable rebates or fees, incentives, security-deposit rate reductions, one-pay leases, and state-specific rules can change the result. This calculator uses a standard monthly money-factor lease with the first payment at signing. It does not fetch live rates or automatically adjust residuals for term or mileage. Insurance, maintenance, excess mileage, excess wear, early termination, and optional buyout costs are excluded.
Where do I get the inputs?
Ask for an itemized lease worksheet showing MSRP, selling price before incentives, rebates, adjusted capitalized cost, residual, money factor, term, mileage, taxes, all fees, and cash due at signing. Use your lender’s final figures to confirm the contract.
