DEAL SNIPERS / FREE BUYING TOOLS

Out-the-door calculator.
Price the whole purchase.

The selling price is only the starting point. Add taxes and fees, then see what your trade and cash down change.

01

Where are you buying?

02

The vehicle & fees

Use a written quote. Enter each charge once. Government fees vary by vehicle, county, plate choice, and registration term; they are not filled with a statewide average.

Check the tax

If fees are taxed at a different rate, the tax base uses an assessed/book value, or local deductions differ, use a confirmed total tax amount. A ZIP code alone cannot establish every vehicle tax rule.

COMPARE THE NUMBERS THAT MATTER

What does “out the door” include?

The full purchase price

OTD combines the negotiated selling price, dealer charges, selected add-ons, government fees and taxes, minus purchase rebates. It is not the advertised price or the monthly payment.

A separate trade calculation

Trade allowance and loan payoff affect your remaining balance. Where permitted, the eligible trade allowance can also reduce the taxable base. Loan payoff does not determine the size of that deduction.

Fees you can see

Ask the dealer to itemize document charges, accessories, protection products, title, registration and taxes. Check which fees are taxable and whether optional products are included before comparing offers.

Why doesn’t this automatically fill every fee?

Title and registration can depend on vehicle age, weight, value, fuel type, county, new plates versus a transfer, and the registration period. Dealer fees can depend on where the dealer operates. Enter confirmed amounts, or clearly identified estimates from your dealer or DMV, rather than treating a state average as your actual bill.

Does buying in another state avoid my home-state tax?

Not necessarily. Delivery location, registration, exemptions and credits for taxes already paid can all matter. Select the out-of-state/special situation and enter the combined tax confirmed for your transaction. This tool does not automatically calculate reciprocity or tax credits between states.

What is excluded from this estimate?

Loan interest, future insurance, fuel, maintenance, later property taxes and future registration renewals are excluded. Add transport, inspections, service fees or products paid at purchase to the appropriate fee category if you want them included. Do not include the same state acquisition tax in both the tax field and government fees.

Can Deal Snipers help review my quote?

We can discuss your vehicle, compare dealer offers and help you understand the purchase terms. Book a consultation or explore our car negotiation service. Shopping a lease? Use our lease calculator.

This independent Deal Snipers calculator is not affiliated with CarEdge. State guidance links are shown above after selection. Standard estimates are for ordinary dealer purchases of passenger vehicles; exemptions and special cases require confirmation. Calculations happen in your browser. Shared links contain the figures you enter; saved comparisons are not included.
